American Red Cross Chosen As Charity of the Year
The Automotive Fleet and Leasing Association (AFLA) has chosen the American Red Cross as their 2017 Charity of the Year. AFLA highlights a charity each year, encouraging members to support the charity through volunteerism and/or donations. Marvin McClain, Director-Enterprise Fleet for American Red Cross, gave a presentation at AFLA 2016 highlighting the organization’s impact within the AFLA attendee audience, as well as the global community, and their current support needs. “190 time per day, the Red Cross helps a family affected by a home fire or other disaster. We can mobilize our staff, volunteers and other resources to respond to those disasters only if we have reliable vehicles. What better group to understand this than the always good-hearted people in the fleet industry. We are truly grateful and humbled that AFLA considers our work to be worthy of the honor of our being named charity of the year. You can be assured we take seriously our responsibility of proper stewardship of any funds or equipment that may be donated. We hope that you will join us by donating material support, your time and/or the lifesaving blood that is given to others 5,600 time per day to improve and saves lives. Margaret Mead, an anthropologist said, ‘Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.’” McClain said.
Directly following McClain’s presentation, Nancy Fitzgerald, iLendingDIRECT President, pledged a donation of $50,000 in the coming year to support the mission and services provided by the American Red Cross. “I am so deeply moved by the work that the American Red Cross does on a daily basis. They are true heroes in a time of desperate need for those they serve. It is an honor and a privilege to help American Red Cross continue to provide the life-saving services they give to those in need. iLendingDIRECT’s mission is to protect and empower through education, innovation and smart financial solutions. We are dedicated to changing lives and giving back to the community,” Fitzgerald said.
Element Fleet Management also pledged its support. “We are so grateful to have the American Red Cross do what they do and we are proud to have them as a partner,” said Kristi Webb, CEO and President of Element Fleet Management, North America. “Together, we can empower extraordinary partnerships to help people affected by disasters like hurricanes, winter storms and countless other crises by supporting the efforts of the Red Cross.” Element has pledged a gift of $25,000 and will match up to another $25,000 in individual donations through December 16.
