AFLA is excited to announce two keynote speakers at AFLA 2019 to be held September 16-18, 2019 in Phoenix, AZ.

Major MJ Hegar will speak at AFLA 2019 with a session focused on teamwork and individual advocacy. Hegar is a force to be reckoned with. While piloting her third tour of Afghanistan, she took a bullet to her helicopter’s windshield. Badly injured, and under heavy fire, she flew her team to safety, conducting a near-impossible landing. She received a Purple Heart and a Distinguished Flying Cross with Valor, an honor awarded to only one other woman ever: Amelia Earhart. When her injuries barred her from service, she fought a policy that excluded women—a historic victory for female military members. An incredible story—soon to be a major motion picture—Hegar’s bravery inspires audiences to persevere through change, hardship, and any obstacles in their way.

Rainn Wilson will also speak at AFLA 2019 with a session titled “Chewing on Life’s Big Questions.” For nearly a decade, Rainn Wilson endeared himself to millions on the hit American edition of The Office, earning three Emmy nominations with his portrayal of Dwight Schrute, an eccentric paper salesman whose ego and dreams of being “#2” knew no bounds. As a speaker, Wilson draws on the offbeat genius behind his on-screen characterizations, showing audiences how creativity isn’t simply for artists. It’s for everyone.

In his warm, anecdote-filled talks, Wilson touches on subjects he is well-versed in—like creativity, and of course, office culture. How is a boss supposed to behave, react, and lead? How do you inspire employees with differing levels of talent and ambition? What will stoke their creativity? What will suppress it? Wilson serves as an amiable guide through the corporate struggles, teamwork challenges, human triumphs, and very real “personalities” that define your workplace. Funny, relatable, and illuminating, Wilson’s talks find universal lessons in the specifics of his fascinating, empathy-filled, and often fictional life.
