Erin Gilchrist, Safelite
Volunteer Leader of the Month | November 2017
Before working in your current position what did you do?
My career began in retail management, where my heart still resides, and then I moved into supply chain and logistics before being recruited by Safelite as a process analyst back in 2004.
What advice do you have for people beginning their careers in fleet?
Use our collaborative and rich industry to obtain education, knowledge and best-practices as you get started.
What's your favorite part about working in fleet?
The ever-changing needs of my organization and customers in fleet and the understanding we have of our role in the organization.
What are three career lessons you've learned thus far?
1. People are first! Leading my team in a way that makes them feel engaged, empowered and rewarded is the key to success.
2. Knowing our customers, anticipating their needs and consistent communication and collaboration with them is core business strategy.
3. Work/life balance is critical to success and people leadership.
Tell us a little bit about your family.
I am the 4th of 12 children and between us we have 50 children and counting. My late husband and I have 5 children: Stuart is married and an aerospace engineer living in Cincinnati, Noah is in school and a missionary, Stella is a missionary overseas for her gap year between high school and college, Lydia is a spirited and creative 9 year-old in the 4th grade, and Simon is an avid reader, athlete and Lego building who is 8 and in the 2nd grade. Needless to say, with work, parenting, sports, music lessons and family events, I stay quite busy.
Erin currently serves as Director of Fleet on the AFLA Board of Directors.
